All Other Pain Management Exams

Required:

Important:

  • If you have an active bacterial infection or are on treatment for an active bacterial infection on the day of your exam, please reschedule your exam to when the bacterial infection has resolved and you are no longer taking antibiotics.

A driver or other transportation is required for the following exams: Nerve Root Block; Epidural; Intradiscal Injection; Synovial Cyst Rupture; Stellate Ganglion Block; Sphenopalatine Ganglion Block; Sympathetic Block; Pudendal Nerve Block.

A driver is not required for all other exams; however, you may feel more comfortable bringing someone to drive you home.

General:

  • Please inform us if you are: diabetic, use blood thinners, have an active bacterial infection, or are pregnant or if there is any chance of pregnancy.
  • Please arrive 15 minutes early. Bring your requisition (unless your physician already submitted it on your behalf), Alberta Health Care card (or out of province health care card), and photo identification with you to your exam.
  • Please eat 1 hour prior to your exam (to minimize vasovagal reactions)
  • For spine injections please avoid chewing gum or carbonated drinks on the day of your exam.
  • Most patients receiving injections should be fine to return to work the same day, depending on their occupation and injection site. If you have any questions or concerns talk to your doctor or our technologist after the procedure. 

For Sphenopalatine Ganglion Block: If you are currently experiencing nasal congestion from a cold or allergies, or you have nasal congestion when you lay down on your back, you are required to bring an over-the-counter nasal decongestant spray such as Drixoral No Drip Original Unscented Spray to use when directed at your appointment.

  • Once we establish eligibility for the exam, you may be asked to change into a gown for your imaging
    • Our staff always ask patients between the ages of 11 and 55 when their last menstrual period was to ensure there is zero chance of pregnancy
  • Together, our technologist will work with you to capture high-quality X-ray images by providing body positioning and breathing instructions
  • Once our technologist has confirmed we have taken the required quality X-ray images, you are free to leave
  • One of our radiologists will review the results and send a detailed report to your doctor. We try our best to send the results as soon as possible
