Virtual Colonoscopy
Meadowlark Diagnostic Imaging has everything you need for your bowel emptying preparation. It is available for pick-up at our clinic once your appointment is booked. Detailed instructions are included to ensure optimal and successful bowel cleansing.
- Please pick up your kit at least 3 days in advance of your exam.
- Your kit will include a low-fibre diet and medication to assist with bowel cleansing.
2 days before exam:
- Lunch: Nutritional shake, clear fruit juice, 250ml of clear broth
- Snack: Energy bar OR apple sauce OR Jell-O
- Supper: Nutritional shake, clear fruit juice, 250ml of clear broth
- Snack: Energy bar OR apple sauce OR Jell-O
- Do not just drink water as you may feel faint.
- You may take normal medications as directed. If you are on insulin, ask your physician about dose modifications.
1 day before exam:
- Breakfast:
- Nutritional shake
- Dissolve PICO-SALAX in a glass of COLD water stir for 2-3 minutes and let rest before drinking
- First package of dissolved PICO-SALAX followed by 4-5 more glasses of water within the hour
- Take first half of READI-CAT
- Lunch:
- Nutritional shake, clear fruit juice, 250 ml of clear broth
- Second half of READI-CAT
- Snack: Energy bar OR apple sauce OR Jell-O
- Supper (eaten before 6:00 pm):
- Nutritional shake, clear fruit juice, 250 ml of clear broth
- Dissolve PICO-SALAX in a glass of COLD water stir for 2-3 minutes and let rest before drinking
- Second package of dissolved PICO-SALAX followed by 4-5 more glasses of water within the hour
- 8:00 pm: Insert first BISACODYL Suppository into the rectum
- Two glasses of water before bed; nothing after midnight
Morning of exam:
- Two hours before your exam, insert second BISACODYL Suppository into rectum
- Only sip fluid if necessary for regular medications
- Try to empty your bowel once more right before the test
