GI Fluoroscopy is a special type of x-ray exam that allows visualization of the body in real time. Unlike static x-rays, the area of interest can be visualized as it moves. This is particularly useful in assessing dynamic structures such as the GI tract (esophagus, stomach, and intestine). A contrast agent (barium) is typically used with these fluoroscopy studies. Pain management injections are also often performed with fluoroscopy, facilitating very precise placement of cortisone within joints or adjacent soft tissue structures.
